About Veronica and the Storm
Set in the peaceful green fields of the Austrian Alps, Veronica and the Storm follows Veronica, a thoughtful Swiss Brown cow with a soft silver bell, on a day when the world turns suddenly dark.
Dark clouds gather over the farm. The wind rises. Thunder rolls across the meadow — and every animal knows what is coming. Pip squeals and bolts for shelter. Greta dashes from her favourite rock. Otto stands steady against the wind and rain. But little Liesel, Veronica’s young calf, freezes in the middle of the field. Her legs will not move.
With the soft cling-clang of her silver bell and a few quiet, knowing words, Veronica and the Storm helps her smallest friend learn that being brave isn’t about not feeling afraid — it’s about taking the next step anyway.

Did you know?
Veronica’s story began in the real world! In Austria, high in the mountains, scientists once met a very clever cow who surprised everyone. This cow used tools — like sticks and brooms — to scratch herself in smart ways. She even used different ends of the same broom for different kinds of scratches! The scientists were amazed. They realised that cows might be much smarter than people had thought. Veronica in this book is a make-believe character, but her curiosity and clever thinking were inspired by that real cow. Sometimes, the most amazing ideas come from simply noticing what’s around you. So next time you have a problem, look around. You might already have just the thing you need!
