Veronica Goes to the Beach

About Veronica Goes to the Beach

Set on a sunlit Mediterranean shoreline, Veronica Goes to the Beach follows Veronica, a thoughtful Swiss Brown cow with a soft silver bell, on the day she sees the sea for the very first time. The waves crash. The wind whooshes through the dunes. And the world feels suddenly enormous.

Each animal reacts to the seaside in their own way. Greta the goat dashes straight for the water, splashing and shouting. Otto the horse trots calmly along the shoreline. Liesel finds a beautiful shell glinting in the sand. Seppi the sheep peeks nervously into a rock pool. But Veronica stays back from the water — wide-eyed, hooves planted firmly on the warm sand, watching the enormous sea before her.

With the soft cling-clang of her silver bell and a quiet, curious heart, Veronica Goes to the Beach helps young readers discover that the bravest adventures begin with one small step into the unknown — and that fear and curiosity can travel together.

Why Children Love Veronica Goes to the Beach

Children love Veronica Goes to the Beach because it speaks to a feeling every young child knows — that mix of excitement and hesitation when something new and big appears in front of them. Whether it’s the first day at preschool, a new playground, or learning to swim, the worry-then-wonder rhythm of Veronica’s first beach day is something every three to seven year old recognises instantly.

Why Parents Love Veronica and the Storm

Helps children name and process their fears Shows that being scared is okay — and that bravery is taking the next step Models calm, gentle support during moments of distress Reassures children that they are not alone when the world feels frightening Warm, comforting, and perfect for stormy nights or anxious moments

The crashing waves, the wide open beach, and the warmth of Veronica’s friendly farm animals make every page feel like a small adventure of its own. Greta is loud. Otto is patient. Liesel is wide-eyed and curious. Seppi is anxious but trying. And Veronica — always thoughtful, always watching — finds her own way at her own pace.

Through warmth, heart, and seaside charm, Veronica Goes to the Beach shows that the world is bigger and more beautiful when we’re brave enough to step into it — and that the friends we love are often the gentle nudge we need to take that step.

Did you know?

Veronica’s story began in the real world!
In Austria, high in the mountains, scientists once met a very clever cow who surprised everyone. This cow used tools — like sticks and brooms — to scratch herself in smart ways.
She even used different ends of the same broom for different kinds of scratches! The scientists were amazed.
They realised that cows might be much smarter than people had thought. Veronica in this book is a make-believe character, but her curiosity and clever thinking were inspired by that real cow.
Sometimes, the most amazing ideas come from simply noticing what’s around you. So next time you have a problem, look around.
You might already have just the thing you need!

I had the kids sitting behind as I read it because they wanted to see the images while I was reading.

Luckily the Paperback version is such a great size because the children could easily see all the pictures.
